The geology: Smoky Quartz gets its brown color from natural irradiation deep underground, where radioactive elements in surrounding rock activate aluminum traces inside the quartz over millions of years. So the brown color is literally created by ancient earth chemistry - not heat treatment, not dye. Naturally irradiated stones tend to have softer color zoning rather than uniform black, which is what makes natural pieces visually distinctive.

Note: a lot of cheap dark Smoky Quartz on the market is clear quartz that's been irradiated in a lab to mimic the look. Ours is the natural variety.

In crystal traditions, Smoky Quartz is most often associated with the root chakra and is said to be a strong grounding stone, supporting protection, stress relief, and clearing scattered energy.
