Prehnite Tumbled Stone | Green Yellow Phyllosilicate Crystal | Heart Chakra Stone of Unconditional Love
Prehnite tumbles in that gorgeous soft yellowish-green color this stone is known for. We love how Prehnite has this almost glowing, translucent quality - sometimes called "grape-like" by collectors because the rounded botryoidal forms in raw Prehnite look like clusters of grapes. The polished tumbles keep that luminous quality, with colors ranging from pale lemon-green to deeper olive tones.
The geology: Prehnite is a phyllosilicate mineral (the layered silicates) composed primarily of calcium and aluminum. It was first discovered in South Africa in the late 18th century by Colonel Hendrik Von Prehn, a Dutch military officer and mineral collector - making it the FIRST mineral ever named after a person. Some pieces show chatoyancy (cat's eye effect) where a bright line moves across the stone under light. Common sources today include Australia, Mali, China, Scotland, and the United States.
What you'll get:
- One intuitively chosen Prehnite tumble
- Polished smooth, often with that translucent glow
- Approximately 1 to 1.5 inches
- Mohs hardness 6 to 6.5
In crystal traditions, Prehnite is called the Stone of Unconditional Love and is most often associated with the heart chakra. It's also tied to the third eye chakra in some traditions, which is why it's described in lore as a "stone of dreaming" and used in dream work, meditation, and intuition development. It's said to support healing the healer (popular among therapists, energy workers, and caregivers) and is described as combining heart-chakra love with quieter spiritual insight.
Heads up: Prehnite is sometimes called "Cape Emerald" in jewelry circles because of the soft green color. Each piece is unique - some lean more yellow, others more green, and a few have visible epidote inclusions (small dark green threads) which are part of the natural geology and prized by collectors.
