A quick honesty note we think is worth sharing: most "citrine" sold today, especially in geode or cluster form, is actually heat-treated Amethyst, not natural citrine. Natural citrine tends to run in more subtle pale yellow to honey tones rather than the deep burnt-orange color often seen in treated material, and it almost never forms in the large geode shapes typical of heated Amethyst. This piece is genuine natural citrine, tumbled rather than faceted, sourced and finished in Brazil.
The geology: Citrine is the yellow-to-golden variety of quartz (SiO2), colored by trace iron in the crystal lattice altered by natural heat and radiation underground over long periods. Mohs hardness 7, very durable for everyday jewelry wear.
