About druzy: druzy refers to a coating of tiny quartz crystals lining the inside of a cavity in the stone, creating that sparkly, glittery texture you see in the little pockets on these stars. It forms when silica-rich groundwater deposits microscopic crystals inside a hollow space over a long period of time.
The geology: despite the name, Moss Agate isn't technically an agate (no banding) and the "moss" isn't plant material at all. It's a chalcedony quartz with mineral inclusions of hornblende, chlorite, or iron oxides that grew in branching, dendritic patterns inside the stone as it formed, sometimes alongside small crystal-lined cavities that become these druzy pockets.
