The geology: Crazy Lace Agate is a banded chalcedony found only in one region of Chihuahua, Mexico, formed roughly 65 to 90 million years ago. Its nickname, Happy Lace, comes from the swirling, random lace-like patterns that never repeat from stone to stone. A quick honesty note from our stone research: bright pink or blue versions of this material sold elsewhere are typically dyed, since the natural stone runs in cream, brown, black, and gold tones like the pieces here.
