The geology: Crazy Lace Agate is a banded chalcedony found only in one region of Chihuahua, Mexico, formed roughly 65 to 90 million years ago. Its nickname, Happy Lace, comes from the random swirling patterns that never repeat between stones. A quick honesty note: bright pink or blue versions sold elsewhere are typically dyed, since the natural stone runs in cream, brown, black, and gold tones like the pieces here. Mohs hardness 6.5 to 7.
