Black Obsidian tumbles with that incredible inky, mirror-like glossy black surface. The geology, because it's actually wild: Obsidian is volcanic glass, not a mineral or crystal in the traditional sense. It forms when felsic lava (high silica content) cools so rapidly that crystalline structure can't develop - so what you're holding is essentially natural glass, the result of geological speed. It's chemically similar to quartz (about 70% silicon dioxide) but with a glassy amorphous structure.
